Building in a Seismic Zone: The Five Practical Things a Builder in MP Should Get Right

Most conversations about earthquake-resistant construction stay at the theory level. Seismic zones, IS codes, structural design principles. All of it is correct and all of it stays with the engineer. The builder on site needs something more direct. These five points are what actually determines whether a building in MP's Seismic Zone III performs the way it was designed to, or whether it looks the same from the outside but is weaker underneath. One: Use Fe-500D, Not Fe-500 If the structural drawing specifies Fe-500D, that specification exists because the engineer calculated for ductility, not just strength. In a seismic zone, the difference between Fe-500 and Fe-500D is not a minor grade upgrade. It is the difference between a bar that absorbs movement before failing and one that resists it more rigidly. Moira Sariya produces Fe-500D CRS from Pithampur, specified for exactly this type of construction. Two: Stirrup Spacing Near Beam-Column Joints One of the most common shortcuts on ...
